Single Phase Equals Double the Market
April 29, 2013
Here at Gaia-Wind we are very pleased to introduce our Single Phase Connection Option for the hugely successful Gaia-Wind 133 Turbine. The move more than doubles at a stroke, the available market for our turbine, with thousands of rural homes, businesses, crofts and farms previously hampered, now able to join in the green revolution.
Over the last few years our fleet has risen to almost 800 turbines “in the ground” all over the world. This popular turbine was developed originally to service rural households in Denmark. In our Danish beginnings, these farm scale turbines were called “Husstandmoller”: This meant that they were particularly quiet, smooth running and efficient: We would also say very handsome too! However they were also only configured for a three phase electricity connection.
In parallel with our great growth in manufacturing and distribution we have matured as a company in other ways and one of the most notable is in growing our R&D capacity. During this time we have had ever increasing requests for an option to connect to a single phase supply. I am happy to say that our Technical Group has come up trumps!
In addition to the growing list of people making this request, more than half of the rural homes and farms in the UK are on a single phase connection. So we know that up and down the country thousands of potential wind turbine owners are hampered by only having access to single phase electricity. Devices with motors, such as wind turbines need to either access the three phase grid or be able to convert their output. Our new Single Phase connection option will allow thousands of new small wind turbine owners to benefit from:
- Using the energy they generate to cut out or reduce charges from utilities, or gas and diesel providers;
- Receiving index linked Feed in Tariff payments; and
- Selling what’s left over to the grid.”
Potential new members of the Gaia-Wind family will include crofters and smallholders who will benefit from less onerous planning conditions which suit the Gaia-Wind 133 very well. We look forward to meeting you.
